Check Point 2026 AI Security Report: LLMs Now Run Live Attacks

ATLAS OWASP CRITICAL Active exploitation · Immediate action required ▲ 9.2 Check Point Research

Check Point Research's 2026 AI Security Report documents a fundamental shift in the threat landscape: AI has moved from a development accelerator to an active operator within live intrusions, with nation-state and criminal actors alike deploying LLMs to conduct hands-on attack operations. The report highlights the maturation of AI-enabled criminal tooling markets, the rise of indirect prompt injection as an operationally relevant attack vector, and persistent enterprise data leakage through unsanctioned AI application use. Agentic architectures are being specifically exploited through planted configuration files that persist malicious instructions across sessions, representing a durable and largely invisible bypass technique.

Browser Ransomware via File System Access API: DeepSeek

ATLAS OWASP HIGH Significant risk · Prioritise patching ▲ 8.5 Check Point Research

Check Point Research demonstrates how DeepSeek's lower refusal rates allowed researchers to transform an LLM-hallucinated malware concept into a practical browser-native ransomware technique targeting Android photo directories via the File System Access API. The attack requires no native payload, APK installation, or root access — only social engineering to obtain a legitimate browser permission prompt. This research highlights how frontier AI models with weaker safety controls can independently design novel attack paths not yet seen in real-world campaigns.

ChatGPT Code Runtime Exfiltrates Data via Prompt Injection

ChatGPT Code Runtime Exfiltrates Data via Prompt Injection

ATLAS OWASP CRITICAL Active exploitation · Immediate action required ▲ 9.2 Check Point Research

Check Point Research disclosed a critical vulnerability in ChatGPT's code execution runtime that allows a single malicious prompt to establish a covert outbound exfiltration channel, bypassing OpenAI's stated network isolation safeguards. Sensitive user data — including uploaded files, conversation content, and personal documents — could be silently transmitted to attacker-controlled servers without user knowledge or consent. The same channel was also found capable of enabling remote shell access within the Linux execution environment.
